Okay, let’s talk about party budgets.
If you’ve spent any time on Pinterest or Instagram planning your kid’s birthday party, you’ve probably saved a party that looks absolutely perfect and then thought, “How much would it actually cost to do something like this?”
And this is where things get a little confusing.

We often have people reach out wanting a party that looks like the inspiration photos they’ve saved, but with a $500 or $1,000 budget 🫣, and we get it. When you’re looking at a photo, you’re seeing a backdrop, some balloons, a cute table and a few personalized details. It may not necessarily look like something that would cost thousands of dollars.
But there’s a lot more behind that photo than what you see.
So if you’re planning a Pinterest-worthy kids party and trying to figure out what you should actually budget for the decor, here’s the honest answer.
It depends on how much you want done for you.

If you’re doing most of the party yourself and just want one really good photo moment, you can spend a few hundred dollars on a backdrop, balloons or signage.
If you want multiple areas styled and professionally installed, you’re probably going to be somewhere in the $1,500–$3,000+ range for the decor.
And then, of course, there’s everything else that comes with a birthday party. Your venue, food, cake, entertainment, rentals, favors… a child’s birthday party can turn into a full-blown production very quickly.
That’s why we think it’s helpful to separate your overall party budget from your styling budget.
You don’t have to spend $2,000 on decor just because you want a really pretty party.

This is probably the easiest way to get the look you want without trying to decorate your entire venue.
A really good backdrop with a balloon installation can do a lot. Add a custom welcome sign and you’ve got a pretty complete visual for the party.
Maybe you want to DIY the kids’ table.
Or you’ve already bought all of your tableware.
And Grandma is making the cake.
Perfect. Let us handle the part that’s going to be in all of your pictures.
We know a lot of moms want the whole party to feel beautifully put together, but don’t necessarily have the budget for a fully custom event design.
That’s why we created our Kids Party Packages: professionally styled, ready-to-book designs with a set price and set inclusions, so you know exactly what you’re getting before you book.

Our For the Memories package starts at $1,395 + tax and delivery and includes the big pieces that make the party feel pulled together: the backdrop, balloons and styled kids’ tables.
The Works starts at $1,795 and includes the photo op, kids tables and a custom welcome sign, so your party feels intentional and cohesive from the first impression.
The Whole Shebang starts at $2,095 and includes all of that plus a 13×13 white bounce house, so you’ve got the photo op, the tables, the first impression, and the activities. Check, check, check, and check!
These packages are a great option if you want the party to look professionally styled without having to build out a custom design. You pick the package that fits your vision and budget, and we take care of the rest!
This is probably the part that makes the least sense if you’ve never hired an event stylist before.
You can go online and buy a balloon garland kit for a fraction of what a professional installation costs.
But… now you’re the one figuring out how many balloons you need, what sizes to order, how to build the garland, how to attach it to the backdrop, how to get everything to and from the venue and what to do with it after.
There’s also the design itself.
Someone has to look at your space and figure out logistics like sizing, balloon coverage, location and how all of the pieces are going to work together.
That’s the part you don’t see in the Instagram photo.
You’re seeing the finished setup. You’re not seeing the hours it took to get there.
There are so many talented people who genuinely enjoy putting parties together, and DIY can absolutely save you money.
Just be honest with yourself about how much time you’re willing to put into it.
Because the $100 balloon garland isn’t really a $100 project if you spend six hours building it, and another two hours fixing it because it’s not looking anything like the picture.
For some people, that’s totally worth it.
For someone else, spending a little more means they get to enjoy the week before their child’s birthday instead of stressing. (I know which one I’d choose. 😅)
You don’t have to DIY everything or hire someone for everything.
This is probably our favorite way to approach a party budget.
Do the things you actually enjoy doing and outsource the things you don’t.
You can make the cake, put together the favors and handle the food while having someone else take care of the backdrop and balloons.
Or maybe you want someone to design the main setup and you want to handle the smaller details yourself.
There really isn’t a right or wrong way to do it.
If you have $500 to spend, put it toward the thing that will make the biggest difference.
If you have $1,500–$2,000+ to put toward styling, you can start bringing several of those Pinterest-worthy elements together.
The important part is knowing what your budget can realistically cover before you start shopping.
