Is hiring an event stylist worth it? If you’re the person who sees a cute party on Pinterest and immediately thinks, “I could make that,” truth is, you probably can.
There are so many DIY party tutorials now that you can find instructions for pretty much anything. Balloon garlands, backdrops, welcome signs, tablescapes, centerpieces… someone on TikTok has probably already made a tutorial for it.
So why hire an event stylist?
Especially when you’re looking at a $100 balloon kit online and a professional installation costs several hundred dollars, it’s a completely fair question.
The answer has a lot less to do with whether you can do it yourself and a lot more to do with what you want to spend your time doing, how much you want to take on and how important the finished look is to you.

If you have a smaller party budget and you’re comfortable doing things yourself, DIY can be a great option. You can shop around, reuse things you already own and spend your money on the pieces that matter most to you.
There are also plenty of things that don’t need to be professionally styled.
You can make the cake. Put together the favors. Order your own tableware. Make simple signs. Create your own centerpieces.
The problem usually starts when you try to DIY everything.
That’s when a project that seemed like a few easy Pinterest projects starts turning into a second job.

One of the hardest things about planning from inspiration photos is that you only see the finished product.
You don’t see the hours that went into making it.
Take a balloon installation, for example. You might find a balloon garland kit online for $75–$100 and think, “Perfect. I’ll just do that.”
Then you have to figure out how many balloons you actually need, order the right colors and sizes, inflate everything, build the garland, figure out how to attach it, transport it to the venue and install it.
And if you’re trying to recreate a specific look, there’s usually some trial and error involved too.
The same thing happens with tablescapes and other decor. Each individual piece is manageable. The amount of work adds up when you’re responsible for all of it.
This is the part we think gets left out of the DIY conversation most often.
If you save $500 by doing your own party styling but spend 15 hours making it happen, you didn’t just spend $500.
You spent $500 plus 15 hours.
Maybe you love that part. If you do, that’s great, and maybe hiring an event stylist isn’t worth it. Planning and creating your child’s party can be really fun when you actually enjoy the process.
But if you’re already juggling work, kids, school, errands and everything else that somehow ends up on your list before a birthday party, those hours might be worth more to you than the money you’re saving.
There is also the week-of-party stress that comes with it. You don’t just need everything finished eventually. It needs to be finished by a specific date and usually within a very specific window of time.
That’s where hiring a professional starts to make more sense.

When you hire an event stylist, you’re getting more than the physical decorations.
You’re hiring someone who knows how to take an idea and make it work in a real space.
We look at the size of the room, the size of the backdrop, the amount of balloon coverage, the color palette and how everything will look together. We source the materials, prep everything before the event, bring it to the venue, install it and take it down afterward.
And there is a certain amount of experience behind all of those decisions.
If you’ve never designed a balloon installation before, you may not know that the garland you ordered is going to look tiny against a 10-foot backdrop until you actually see it in the room.
A stylist has enough experience to anticipate those things before the party.
That’s a big part of what you’re paying for.
This is where we think a lot of people get stuck.
They assume the options are either DIY the entire party or hire someone to design the entire event.
Maybe you want to handle the food, cake and favors yourself but want a professional backdrop and balloon installation.
Maybe you want to create your own kids’ table but need someone to handle the welcome sign.
Maybe you have the whole party planned and just want someone to come in and make the room look amazing.
That’s exactly why we offer a la carte styling and packages at Raire. You can bring us in for the pieces that you don’t want to tackle yourself without turning the entire party into a custom event design project.
And if you want more of the party professionally styled, our Kids Party Packages give you another option.
Instead of starting with a custom design and building a proposal from scratch, you can choose from a set design with defined inclusions and a set starting price. You’re still hiring us to design, install and tear down the setup; you’re just choosing a package rather than creating something completely custom.
When is hiring an event stylist worth it? I think there are a few questions worth asking yourself.

Do you actually enjoy DIYing?
Do you have the time to do it?
Are you comfortable figuring things out as you go?
Are you trying to recreate a very specific look?
And probably the biggest one: how much do you want to be doing the month, week, or days leading up to your event?
If you love DIY and have the time, go for it. You’ll probably save some money and have fun along the way.
If the thought of inflating 200 balloons at midnight makes you want to cancel the birthday altogether, hiring someone might be worth every penny.
And if you’re somewhere in the middle, you can always combine the two.

This is really what it comes down to.
When the party is over, are you going to be glad you spent the weeks before it making every detail yourself?
Or are you going to wish you had spent a little more so you could actually enjoy the experience?
Neither answer is wrong.
For some people, DIY is part of the fun. For others, the whole reason for hiring an event stylist is being able to walk into the venue on party day and see everything already done.
That’s the value.
You aren’t just paying for balloons or a backdrop. You’re paying for the design, the experience, the labor and the time you get back.
And sometimes, getting your time back is the part that’s worth the most 🤎
